Let’s look at Fear and Lack of Knowledge FEAR: One the top reasons people stay in the same positions and not want to move out of their comfort zones is simply fear. What should you do when FEAR is your reason for not taking on new challenges? GO AHEAD AND FEEL THE FEAR. , so tBy feeling this, you can acknowledge any barriers standing in your way of your new quests. Take Action: Write your fears down. Once written you can then look at your fear, and start the process of addressing your fears and the barriers they are causing. When I first started considered a change into management; my fear was my lack of experience. I feared I did not have the skills to even apply for the position. I acknowledged my fear and choose to take one class on how to manage people. From there I blossomed and continue to blossom because I found a way to overcome that fear. Now let’s talk about the LACK of KNOWLEDGE Research the new role you are considering. There are many resources on the web that would provide valuable information about the role you are considering. Take Action: Write down the key points and duties and compare to your current and past experiences, including your schooling and volunteering to see the similarities. You may just surprise yourself that many of hats you have worn have different titles we go by in our careers. I use to work at a call center and part of my job was to find new candidates for different positions within the site. When I was ready to promote or upskill an agent sometimes they lacked the confidence to accept the position because they thought they lack the knowledge. However, when they wrote down the keys points, they realized we wore the same hat on many levels. They advised customers on the options we had to offer and would coach customers on how to read their bills. My role was to advise staff on what their jobs were and I would coach them on how to do their jobs easier. We wore the same hats as advisors and coaches we just had different titles. So now what?
